By the end of the Christmas holidays and despite a mountain of new toys my little people were getting bored. Time to get them in the kitchen, then! We still had plenty of Christmas chocolates to eat up but I wanted them to have a healthier snack. Easy baked bananas ticked all the boxes ✔. Jess couldn’t wait and ate her banana straight away but that still left three children to cook with me (and if you’ve noticed the size of my kitchen from my photos you’ll know that three is plenty 😂).
Will was looking for a third recipe to complete his cooking badge for Beavers and these chocolate bananas are amazingly easy to make. They can be cooked on the bbq in the summertime too. You could serve them with ice-cream or custard, though mine ate them without anything else.
We used a bag of chocolate Santa’s 🎅 to make these but buttons, chocolate chips etc would be fine too.
When you cut the bananas make sure you don’t cut right the way through to the other side or you’ll end up with a gooey-chocolatey mess over the banana skin and tin foil, and nobody wants to see chocolate go to waste.
I used small bananas in this recipe (the ones labelled as a kids range in the shops). If you use bigger ones you’ll need to use more chocolate and cook for an extra 5 minutes or so.
Ingredients
Makes 3 servings
- 3 kids sized bananas
- 1 x 70g pack chocolate
Method
- Heat your oven to 180°C.
- Using a blunt knife cut the length of the banana, leaving 2-3cm uncut at each end.
- If you like you can pretend your banana is a phone…
- Push the chocolate into the cut in the banana.
- Wrap loosely in tin foil (if you wrap it too tight to the chocolate it will end up on the foil rather than in the banana).
- Place on a baking tray and cook for 20 minutes.
Wonderful idea. toasting the bananas in the oven intensifies the sweetness and flavor. I often use this method for banana bread. Cute kids.
